Shaman’s Fire

a story of injustice

a story of heartbreak

a story of restoration

A singer, a death, a shaman…what has Sayla Whitewater gotten herself into? Shaman’s Fire is a modern-day suspense story of a young Native American woman who struggles to find her identity as she moves between the ancient traditions of her people and the beliefs of the merging white world.

The story takes place in Chiloquin, Oregon. The setting and many of the events in the story are historically authentic. Sayla discovers magic in the shaman’s fire but, too late, she discovers such magic demands a price. Shaman’s Fire is a story of choices and how the known world can change in an instant.

Songs in the Night

Songs in the Night is a heartfelt story of a family’s struggle to survive through the early seventies in the backwoods of Oregon. Having become discouraged with what they called “the establishment,” Cat and Sandy return to the land in much the same way their ancestors did. They build a home with no electricity or running water that can only be reached by foot during winter, but they love their little home nestled beneath towering Ponderosa pines and incense cedar.

It is there, midst the beauty of creation, beneath a sky so clear they breathe in the scent of life, that they discover the truth about the unrest in their souls. Unable to blame anyone else for their continued unrest, they turn to Creator and discover the truth about Him is much different than what they had been told all their lives.

Then tragedy strikes, putting their newfound faith to the test. Is simple faith enough to carry them through the loss of every material thing they own?

Each chapter is followed by a song that was written at a time in the author’s life when she was asking God for answers. The simplicity of the writing coupled with newfound faith is sure to touch even the hardest of hearts.

Twenty-One Days with a Mountain View

Mountain View is a tiny church with a white steeple found on Greensprings Highway between Ashland and Klamath Falls. Here, a group of unlikely congregants gather to worship and study the Bible beneath an enormous wooden cross separating two large windows with a view of the mountains and trees beyond.

Before worship, we often serve breakfast to the kids from Wilderness Trails, a nearby camp for at-risk kids. Many of these kids have graciously offered their artwork for this book and we are proud to use it!

Lee Ann Johnson is our Pastor Joe’s wife. She divides her time between caring for kids and grandkids, a menagerie of farm animals (including Max the pig who thinks he’s a dog), working at a dental office in Ashland, and singing on the worship team. Lee Ann began writing these snippets of inspiration a couple of years ago and includes them in our Sunday bulletins. We all look forward to them so much that we decided to share them with you.

Marleen McDowell and Sandy Cathcart are both seasoned writers who also attend Mountain View and have joined with Lee Ann to create a lovely gift book designed to grow your faith, hope and love through candid stories, real-world applications, color pages, and inspirational Bible readings.

We hope you are as blessed as we are with these writings as we welcome you to our Mountain View home. Here, liberals and conservatives, alike, get along and break bread together, opening the Word and sharing heartfelt needs and prayers. If you are ever in the area, we would love to have you join us! The coffeepot is on before and after every service.

Wild Woman: A Daughter’s Search for a Father’s Love

wild woman image

I’ve been accused of being a rebel, but I’m not really. I simply answer the call of the wild that runs deep in my blood. I hear it every time I smell the musky scent of game and wet earth. I savor it over open fires and far-seeing places, and I dream of it on my bed at night when rain makes music on the roof and I begin planning the next adventure.

Wild is more than a physical, untamed place. It is an unrestrained soul soaring on the wings of the wind. It is a connection to the heart of Creator Redeemer … a total immersion in a Father’s love.”

From a hospital room to the wilderness, set against the backdrop of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and linking those events with the deaths of Marin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy during the turbulent sixties era, Wild Woman is the journey of reconciling valued relationships and reaching for your dreams. It invites readers on a mental trip back through their
own lives and challenges them to take a closer look at creation while offering an open door to fall into the arms of the One who created it.

“Wild answers to wild questions you were afraid to ask.”
—John Wiuff, counselor and creator of the Lightbox Method
